However it is highly ornamental, having an interesting low spreading habit and outstanding autumn leaf colour.
Cultivation tips: Sumach flourishes in any fertile well drained / dry soil, even chalk. Rhus is fully hardy and can tolerate cold planting locations, but prefers an open sunny spot for good autumn leaf colour. Cut back suckers in early spring.
