Planted as a bulb Allium cristophii produces balls of purple - blue blossom born above surrounding plants on tall spikes. The foliage will then die back over the summer months. Ideal for planting in drifts among other low growing plants, allium provides reliable early colour after which it will happily take a back seat for later flowering plants.
Cultivation tips: Alliums grow best on well drained soils in full sun, tolerating well with poorer well drained soils, especially in year one as they are bulb flowering plants so have an in built energy source. This ornamental onions prefer a sunny sheltered spot and should be planted as bulbs in autumn.
